Definition of Adverb

Adverb is a word which describes or changes the meaning of a verb, an adjective and sometimes another adverb also.

Examples of Adverb

·        She ran swiftly.

Types of Adverb

Adverb of Time

Adverb of Time is used to describe time of a verb, adverb or an adjective.

Examples of Adverb of Time

·        Meeting was held yesterday.
·        They will play a match tomorrow.
In these sentences yesterday and tomorrow are adverbs while held and play are verb of these sentences.

Adverb of Place

Adverb of place shows the place i.e. everywhere, anywhere, here, there etc.

Examples Adverb of Place

·        They will play match here.
·        In spring, birds sing everywhere.
In these sentences here and everywhere are describing adverb of place.

Adverb of degree

Adverb of degree is also called a type or class of adverb i.e. completely, almost, already and fully.
·        She was fully surprised to see her friend.
·        She almost forgot that incident.
 In these examples already and almost are adverbs which are showing degree of verb.

Adverb of manner

Adverb of manner is a type of adverb, it shows manners i.e. quick, slow, fast, etc.

Examples Adverb of Manner

·        The birds quickly flew away.
·        They write slowly.
Quickly and slowly are adverbs of manner of this sentence which describe how actions are accrued.
